ShapeShifter Lab in Gowanus is known for featuring talents from a variety of music genres. And those talents come from all over the world.

But there’s something a bit more special when our local musicians come to play live.

On Sunday, March 5, families will flock to ShapeShifter (18 Whitwell Place, between 1st and Carroll Streets) to get a huge dose of Katie Mullins, who released a kids-oriented album in 2016 and performs under the name Katie Ha Ha Ha. Many parents and children know her as Music with Miss Katie.

Katie dropped These Things Go Together last November 18, which includes five original songs and 12 “reimagined” traditional songs.

We caught her record release show last November 20, and the enthusiasm by the families that poured into ShapeShifter speaks for the upbeat, catchy, and danceable songs she performed live with her full band.

“This is the first kid’s albums I’ve made, and it’s exciting to do a show like this,” she told us.

Mullins, a neighbor who lives near the border of the Windsor Terrace and Kensington neighborhoods, brings along an extremely talented and musically tight group of musicians who will be supporting her during this performance.

Local beloved songwriter and musician Amelia Robinson, who performs as Mil’s Trills, will once again join Mullins onstage. Mil’s recently performed at ShapeShifter, featuring songs off her most recent album, Now That We’re Friends… And Mullins was on hand to support Robinson’s efforts.

The two met about three years ago. “We started going to each other’s shows and joined a songwriting group together,” Mullins said. “That’s how we began singing on each other’s songs.”

So get your kids prepped for Sunday morning. And you can admit it — you’re just as excited.
